Scaling Formal Verification to Find Bugs in Complex Smart Contract Systems
Formal verification is a technique for detecting bugs and mathematically proving their absence. By comparing the existing behavior of the program to its desired behavior, code security is drastically increased. However, most tools do not scale to handle realistic programs. I will explain how the Certora Prover successfully verifies programs with 10,000 lines of Solidity code.

UNFUZZ - Organizational Design and Visualising Internal Functions - Part 1 of 2
There is a maximum capacity of 36 people for this workshop

Initiating a new web3 project or a large project restructuring can feel fuzzy. Setting a vision and defining on-chain processes is not the hardest part—the challenge is in mobilising and orchestrating a group of people to initiate the research and figure out the implementation details, especially if the trust level is low.

In a private workshop amongst MakerDAO community members we explored the work-to-be-done as part of initiating the Endgame restructuring, and explored ways in which this group could contribute and coordinate. Today we’re eager to share some learnings of the workshop we conducted, and share the process so you can apply it in your own context (eg. DAO design, a new web3 project, etc) as well.

What the Hex!
Signing DApp transactions for EVM chains is a security nightmare, as it's very common for users to blindly approve a signature request, typically some undecipherable hex string, while being completely oblivious to what it means. This remains a very popular attack vector, taking advantage of the lack of information available to users while signing transactions.

In this talk, we'll develop an understanding of Ethereum calldata, learn how you can decode it and reveal insights about seemingly opaque transactions. I'll also present some of our recent efforts at Brave to bring more safety and transparency to the transaction approval process in Brave Wallet.

Building EVM Radar
The nature of blockchain of being transparent and allowing everyone to see everything at any time while tons of smart contacts getting deployed every day to multiple EVM-based chains, some of them for educational purposes some of them are functional contracts and some of them are malicious.

In this presentation, I will explain how Halborn team built a chain-wide bytecode scanner to scan the entire EVM-based networks to identify vulnerabilities based on a signature database of EVM instructions leaving almost zero chance for false positive alerts. A lot of topics/tools are involved such as reverse engineering/distributed systems and EVM internals are discussed to give the community the ability to build more signatures and make EVM-based networks safer!

Decentralization Is a Fetish
Crypto-skeptics and crypto-fanatics tend to use an implicit assumption of maximal decentralization. Most people don’t actually want decentralization; their goals are prior to decentralization. Decentralization is therefore a helpful meme, but ultimately a fetish, born from confusing the ends with the means. Decentralization is a spectrum, not a binary; and a multidimensional spectrum at that. The network, computation, data, indexing, and the rest of the application layer can all be more or less decentralized.

Not to say I’m completely against it: Decentralization at the network level is good. The fact of potential decentralization can be powerful too; counterfactual decentralization is an important property. Decentralization can therefore be a backstop against some of the larger problems with centralized systems, without forcing us to be centralized where it is unnecessary.

UNFUZZ - Endgame - Part 2 of 2 (Maker only)
This workshop is only for members of MakerDAO.

Coordinating the Endgame proposal execution is a fuzzy process. Now that the vision is set and consensus has been reached, the research & orchestration work that awaits feels daunting. How do we coordinate this process amongst the group of people that are willing to take initiative?

Through a workshop, we’ll get together and collectively explore the work that needs to happen first, explore where each of us can contribute and establish a working dynamic amongst the group. The Endgame proposal is a vision, not a blueprint. Let’s work towards that blueprint.

"We" in Web3: Space Built by People for People
The biggest trend in web3 is its community - building for people by people and how traditional brands can benefit from it. With the popularity of DAOs, AMAs, and voting mechanisms, ownership moves from the few to the many, and leaders are more conductors than commanders. A healthy community can help a traditional business develop a better product based on feedback, add more features based on the community's needs, and organically onboard more people. For the first time in history, general users have the power to affect the brands' next step. There is “we” in web 3 for all of these reasons. I would like to dive deeper into 3 factors of community development (connectedness, co-creation, credentials), highlight the ways traditional businesses can build a community in web3 (DAOs, IRL events), and some recent examples (Lacoste, Tag Heuer, KPMG, Adidas).
